Phil Berg told us all about how to grow our chapter, how to attract new members and to make sure that we attract the best members…

A lot of information was packed into his rapid fire 35 minute presentation at the BNI Regional Members Day 2010 last Friday 26th June in London. So below I can not do justice to his presentation other than to recall and share my notes, so we can grow our chapter with vigor and style too. Dinah Liversidge gave great advice to the audience at the BNI Regional Members Day 2010 last Friday 26th June in London. She described all you needed to do improve your credibility which surely would lead to even more business and recognition as a market leader.

She described the importance of listening hard and following up, then following up again and again and feeding back to the people who give you referrals. When you do that you set the tone and you gain more respect as someone who follows through.

Common sense and Social Media has proven how well sharing what we learn is so powerful, so whilst it is an obvious outcome, the key is to actually do it and at the same time create the opportunity for a second chance. She even told us how BA ruined her journey and so she switched to Virgin. Unfortunately Virgin destroyed her wheelchair, but Richard Branson phoned her and bought her a new one – a really great one with go faster stripes. Proving that being a giver will enable the giving to be favoured and returned. Great story – you should have been there!

She progress with her five steps to credibility, steps I for one truly believe, have quality one to ones – spend some time real time, getting to know each other. Get to know your power circle, and dont just turn up for your weekly meetings, but prepare for them before the meeting, especially your 60 seconds. Give without looking for the gain and of course, follow up.

David and Ivan getting passionate about networking

Although Dr Misner presented a powerful keynote and extolled the virtues and benefits of BNI with a very passionate, practical presentation, he was inclusive of other media too. He spent about 15 minutes describing the four streams of networking, only one of which could include BNI. By all accounts that is about to change. He maintains that BNI is still one of the most professional and practical ways for people to do more business. He pointed out that to be successful, you must invest at least 6.5 half hours per week actually networking for networking to achieve success. Noted!

He went on to cover some practical ideas that included such headlines as open twos, open threes, fours and so on, the 12 * 12 * 12 rule and fun suckers… You would learn more about these if you attended BNI Great Western where we plan to cover these elements and more at our future chapter meetings.

Edible Material is a photography Duo based in London, specializing in food and event photography. It consists of 2 photographers Lior Zilberstein and Lone Eriksen, both equipped with different sets of expertise to produce a successful collaboration and the creation of a high quality tailored product.

Our passion is food photography and we are looking for clients in the food industry: Restaurants, caterers, bakers, food products companies etc.

As we are looking to push our work forward we aim to publish our work in magazines and books. We are therefore looking for contacts in publishing, mainly professionals such as editors, art directors, food writers and food stylists.

In addition we specialize in event photography and offer a unique, long lasting and intimate collection of images to the right clients. We have a special interest in private events and are currently looking for young couples getting married in and around London.

In an interesting interview in todays Telegraph, Ivan Misner, founder of BNI talked about effective business networking and how the internet can be mis-used by people who don’t build relationships with others.

Premature solicitation is where others simply collect email addresses and launch into sales pitches before building a relationship and understanding the needs of the people that they could work with. He maintains there is a backlash against bad networking.

This is something that BNI Great Western, a weekly, Paddington based chapter completely understand. If you would like to come along and see how its done properly, then we think you will not only enjoy the event, but the feedback from most people that come along, want to know how to join. BNI Great Western is a collection of both seasoned and people new in business who accept members on application only.
